The Castle of the Corvin Family is a monument of architecture from the XIVth century and its imposing appearance dominates over the city of Hunedoara. For those who feel attracted to the Middle Ages, the castle is a unique monument in Romania and one of the most interesting monuments in Europe.

The castle was built on an old foundation, on a rock at the bottom of which flows the river Zlasti, and is a grand construction with tall and differently colored roofs, with big and small towers, windows and balconies ornamented with stone carvings.

The monument has a charm of its own due to the different architectural styles, the presence of some innovations on the military and social level and because of the tumultuous life at court for 400 years. You can visit: The Knights’ Hall, the Hall of the Diet, the Treasure Hall, the Capistrano Tower, the Gothic Chapel ( from the XV th century, the Gallery of the Neboisa Tower. In the yard of the castle used to be a well, that was 30 meters deep. According to the legend this well has been dug by three Turkish prisoners, who were promised their freedom if they dug deep enough and found water.


The Fortress from Deva, the Magna Curia Castle, where now lies the Village Museum, the Statue of Decebal ( the Dacian king ), the Statue of Traian ( the Roman Emperor), the Franciscan Monastery.


The Reformed Castle and the Reformed Church from Santamarie-Orlea are situated 4 km south from Hateg. The church was built in the XIIIth century and still keeps the paintings and the original gothic architectural elements.

In the south-western part of Hateg one can visit the ruins of the Colt Fortress and Colt Church; the Prislop Monastery ( founded in the year 1404); the church from Strei ( founded in the half of the XIIIth century). For nature lovers the Retezat mountains, one of the most beautiful mountains from Eastern Europe, can be accessed from here.



Is 13km away from Hateg. Here lies a church, that was built in the XIIIth century out of the stones taken from the Roman ruins of the Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetuza. The ruins of Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetuza, the capital of Roman Dacia, are one of the most interesting tourist attraction from this area.


The Folk Art Museum ( wooden objects, sacred icons painted on glass, old traditional costumes), the Reformed Church ( founded in the XII th century), the Fortress ( built in the XV th century), the Palia Monument, the Orthodox Cathedral. The city of Orastie represents the starting point for visiting the Dacian fortresses: Sarmisegetuza Regia, the residence of the Dacian kings, Burebista and Decebal; the Costesti Fortress ( 18 km away from Orastie); the stone walls of the fortress from Blidaru ( 4 km away from Orastie).

Here lies a mineral spring, that was built on the foundation of an old Roman establishment named Aquae, because of the richness of the mineral spring.
